Welcome to Chiang Mai

As you wipe the rust from your eyes and draw back the shades, you’re reminded of the previous day’s adventures and the perpetual Thai heat, nearly impossible to escape.

It engulfs you at every turn. From the radiating tuk-tuk engines, to the blistering spice of chili-laden plates of Som Tum, to the steaming bowls of Khao Soi that you can’t wait to devour.

It’s a new day and the sun is rising at the Anantara Resort Chiang Mai. Lucky for you, it’s time to do it all over again.

Why You'll Love Your Stay

The Anantara Resort in Chiang Mai is a beautifully designed luxury hotel with an even better location.

Situated right between the Mae Ping River and the Old City, Anantara has arguably the best location for easily accessing the downtown area.

But that’s not the only reason why we love it.

Here are three reasons why you will love your stay at the Anantara Chiang Mai Resort:

Prime Downtown Location

Need I say more? At the Anantara Resort, you are right in the middle of all the action.

With so much to do in Chiang Mai and the surrounding areas, the Anantara serves as the perfect home-base for your daily adventures.

Just a few thought starters for your stay:

  • Explore the ancient temples of the Old City and Doi Suthep
  • Wander down the Sunday Walking Street while indulging in Northern Thai cuisine
  • Visit an elephant sanctuary for a bucket list experience

The location also allows you the ability to take day trips from the hotel, with the option of quickly jetting back once the afternoon heat gets too unbearable.

These quick trips back to the hotel will cause zero guilt or inconvenience seeing as you can relax by the pool, wash up, and then hit the town again once the evening markets start stirring.

It’s impossible to be bored at the Anantara Chiang Mai. Even if you manage to run out of things to do in the city (highly unlikely), you can take Muy Thai lessons right at the resort or even snack-out on an afternoon tea.

Excellent Arrival and Check-In

I’m sure your journey to Chiang Mai was not an easy one.

It typically plays out like this; a 15-hour or more flight overseas, a bus ride, maybe another flight, a shuttle, and let’s throw in a quick tuk-tuk ride for good measure.

Needless to say, there’s a good chance you will be exhausted when you step foot into Anantara. The welcome you receive will not disappoint.

It starts out with wet towels on a platter to cool yourself down.

Then onto a little culinary show of blue pea flower tea that turns purple when you squeeze your lime into the glass.

Next up, complimentary 10-minute massages as your room is prepared.

Lastly, you get to choose the scents that will accompany your room in the form of soap, shampoo, and lotion. Not too shabby.

Stunning Architecture

The brilliance of the architecture (compliments of Australian architect Kerry Hill) is immediately apparent as you approach the lobby.

Are you inside or outside? It’s not that easy to pinpoint.

The wide open spaces that extend from the lobby, past the lounging cabanas, through the courtyard, and into the pool area make it feel as though you are both… or neither.

It’s a perfect marriage for a resort that blurs the lines of natural tropical atmosphere and bustling city streets.

On the walk to your room, the hallways are filled with the buzz of rush hour traffic that flows through the wood grated walls.

A sense of anxiety pours over as you come to the realization that you will be woken at the crack of dawn from the sound of horns.

Luckily as you enter your room and close the door, it’s almost as if you walked into your own little safe haven, sheltered away from the city mayhem Southeast Asia has perfected.

Chiang Mai is one of our favorite cities in the world and we undoubtedly loved every minute.

Seeing as there is so much to do and see, it was crucial that we stayed somewhere close to the downtown area… at least for a few days.

Which leads us to our main takeaway; to properly experience the Old City, the Anantara Resort in Chiang Mai is where you should stay.

We would recommend it to any client of ours who wishes to visit the region.
